Prusa Research Introduces High-Temperature HT HOTEND for Core One Printers

Prusa Research has launched a new high-temperature hot end for its Core One 3D printers, capable of reaching temperatures up to 400 °C. This swappable hot end enhances material compatibility and improves part strength through better interlayer bonding.

New HT HOTEND Features

Prusa Research has unveiled a high-temperature hot end specifically designed for its Core One 3D printers. This new component can achieve temperatures of up to 400 °C and allows users to swap it out without tools in under a minute. It is compatible with a variety of materials including ASA, PC Blend, PC Blend Carbon Fiber, PA11 Carbon Fiber, PPS-CF, PPS-GF, and PPA-CF, as well as everyday options like PLA and PETG.

Benefits of Higher Temperatures

Utilizing higher extrusion temperatures, around 350 °C, the HT HOTEND significantly improves interlayer bonding, which in turn enhances the strength of parts made from materials like PA11 Carbon Fiber and PC Blend Carbon Fiber. For instance, PC Blend Carbon Fiber can see a 7% improvement in interlayer bonding, while PA11 Carbon Fiber can achieve up to a 23% increase. This is particularly beneficial as it minimizes anisotropy and enhances tensile strength, especially in the Z-layer direction.

New Material Compatibility

The new hot end expands the range of materials that the Core One can print, including PPS-CF and PPA-CF, which are known for their high heat deflection temperature and excellent mechanical properties. However, caution is advised when printing with PPS, as it can release sulfur dioxide if overheated. Proper air filtration is necessary when using this material.

Pricing and Availability

The HT Hotend upgrade kit is priced at $199, while the entire Core One L+ printer is available for $2,169. The hot end is compatible with multiple Core One models, including CORE One, CORE One+, CORE One+ (Gen2), CORE One L, and CORE One L+. The hot end is based on E3D's ObXidian 500 technology, making it a robust choice for engineering and industrial applications.

Prusa Research continues to solidify its position among automotive, military, and industrial sectors by offering advanced materials and capabilities that set it apart from competitors in the market.
