NovaSpine Launches 3D-Printed Spinal Implant in Record Time
Written with artificial intelligence.

NovaSpine has successfully introduced its DIVA 3D One spinal implant to the market in under six months, thanks to collaboration with 3D Systems' Application Innovation Group. This rapid development highlights advances in medical device manufacturing using 3D printing technology.
Partnership for Innovation
NovaSpine, a company specializing in medical devices, has partnered with 3D Systems’ Application Innovation Group (AIG) to bring its DIVA 3D One spinal implant to market. Their collaboration started in 2015, and they have since developed eight device lines, resulting in over 30,000 implants manufactured at 3D Systems’ ISO 13485-certified facility in Leuven, Belgium.
Streamlined Development Process
For the DIVA 3D One project, NovaSpine aimed to expedite its development process, which included design reviews, industrialization, and compliance with EU Medical Device Regulations (MDR). The AIG team provided essential guidance from the initial prototyping phases to the final production framework, ensuring all regulatory documentation was met. The first batch of implants was manufactured using advanced DMP Flex 350 Dual multi-laser metal 3D printers and Grade 23 titanium, a biocompatible metal.
Rapid Market Entry
Remarkably, the entire process from project initiation to product delivery took less than six months. This rapid timeline indicates a standard application timeframe, which may vary based on the complexity of the device and validation requirements. Pascal Khalifé, CEO of NovaSpine, emphasized that the collaboration with 3D Systems significantly accelerated the industrialization process while maintaining high standards of performance and safety.
Global Reach
Currently, NovaSpine offers a diverse range of 3D-printed titanium implants across more than 25 countries. The company recently expanded its market presence into Brazil after obtaining necessary certifications. This expansion underscores NovaSpine’s commitment to leveraging innovative technology in the medical device sector.
