Celebrating a Milestone in Additive Manufacturing
At the RAPID event in Boston, HP Additive Manufacturing Solutions celebrated a significant milestone: ten years in the additive manufacturing (AM) market. The company introduced several innovations, notably the entry-level Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) 1200 system, enhancements to its Metal Jet platform, and the general availability of the Industrial Filament 600 High Temperature 3D printer in the U.S. and Canada.
Innovations on Display
The company's Vancouver, Washington facility, a 225,000 square foot R&D Center of Excellence, served as the backdrop for showcasing these advancements. Alex Moñino, Senior Vice President and General Manager, emphasized the strategic location, surrounded by numerous colleges and universities. He noted that HP aims not just to manufacture 3D printers, but to fundamentally transform production processes.
HP has reported a 30% year-over-year growth, driven largely by sectors such as automotive and consumer goods. Moñino highlighted that demand currently exceeds supply, with over six million parts printed in just the last month. Meanwhile, Clara Remacha, Head of Product Management for HP 3D Printing Polymers, discussed the technical aspects of MJF, which employs a powder bed fusion process that enhances productivity by using infrared lamps for area-based fusing.
Future Developments
Looking ahead, HP is set to introduce additional products and features, including the Dual Tone mode for the Jet Fusion 5600, which will enhance post-processing capabilities. The company is also expanding its materials offerings, with new polymers and partnerships aimed at broadening its market reach. The new HP IF 600HT, an open materials platform designed for high-performance applications, is already available, showcasing HP's commitment to innovation in the AM landscape.
In essence, HP's focus remains on making additive manufacturing more accessible and efficient, ensuring its leadership in the industry as it moves forward into the next decade of AM technology.
