ANSI and America Makes Launch Resources for Additive Manufacturing Standards
Written with artificial intelligence.

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and America Makes have introduced two key resources to aid in navigating additive manufacturing standards: a searchable online database and the September 2026 Gaps Progress Report. These tools aim to enhance safety and consistency in 3D-printed parts across various industries.
New Resources for Additive Manufacturing Standards
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and America Makes have unveiled two new resources designed to improve access to additive manufacturing (AM) standards. These include a searchable online database and the September 2026 Gaps Progress Report, developed by the Additive Manufacturing Standardization Collaborative (AMSC).
Additive Manufacturing Standards Database
The newly launched Additive Manufacturing Standards Database is hosted on the ANSI website and offers a streamlined way to navigate existing standards within the AM lifecycle. Users can search by keywords or filter results based on material types, processes, and other criteria. Access is free after completing a short online form, and the database will receive regular updates to reflect ongoing standards activity.
Gaps Progress Report
Alongside the database, the September 2026 Gaps Progress Report details updates on five of the 141 identified standardization gaps from the AMSC's Standardization Roadmap for Additive Manufacturing, which benefits from input from around 300 experts across multiple sectors. The report highlights that no new gaps have been identified and will be updated periodically as standards evolve.
Future Developments
Christine Bernat, director of standards facilitation at ANSI, emphasized the need for standards to keep pace with rapid advancements in AM technology. Interested parties can receive updates or participate in AMSC activities by indicating their interest when accessing the report or by contacting amsc@ansi.org.
